How to Clean the Kitchen Chimney?

Before trying any of the methods remove the filter from the chimney. Most kitchens have either mesh or baffle filters that will slide out or pop out easily from the base of the hood. Once you have removed it, try any of these methods.

1. Using Water and Dishwasher Liquid

Take the filter and apply about 3- 4 tablespoons of the dishwasher liquid in it. Then take a heavy-duty bucket and fill it with boiling hot water. Now fully immerse the filter in the bucket and keep it for at least 1-2 hours. Then take it out carefully, scrub a little with a brush, and rinse it with normal water. Finally, let it dry.

2. Using Baking Soda, Vinegar & Salt

It is another useful method. Take a bucket full of boiling hot water. Then add 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda, around 2 cups of vinegar, and 2-3 tablespoons of salt into it. Soak the filter in it and keep it there for 2hours. After that take it out and gently scrub it with a scrubber. Then rinse it with plain water and let it dry.

3. Using Caustic Soda

Using caustic soda to remove the grease works like magic. Take a tray and keep the filter there. Now spread some caustic soda over the filter. Then pour boiling hot water over it and let it stay for 2 hours. After taking out scrub it and wash it with normal water. Dry it properly before putting it back.

Caution:  As soon as you pour boiling water into the tray it will release fume. Moreover dealing caustic soda with bare hands can lead to chemical burns. So better put on a hand glove before trying this method.

4. Using Paint Thinner or Nail Remover

If you have paint thinner or even nail polish remover readily available at home, you can use them to remove stains from the filter. Soak a small piece of cloth in paint thinner or nail remover and scrub it on the filters. Let it stay for 5minutes and then wash it with normal water and let it dry naturally.
